Why We Exist
Parrot Society (Singapore) is a non-profit animal welfare society established in 2022 by a group of dedicated parrot owners in response to a lack of knowledge and support for proper parrot care in Singapore.
We have rescued and fostered several parrots among ourselves and shared care tips to many members of the parrot community. In 2022, we decided to set up this non-profit organisation to formalise our initiatives.
Our Mission
To elevate the welfare standards of parrot-keeping in Singapore through education and outreach, and to provide a sustainable system through which abandoned, neglected, and mistreated parrots can be aided.
Our Vision
To achieve a Singapore where parrots are no longer unethically exploited, and where they can coexist with humans peacefully.
Our Guiding Principles
- Advocate for ethical parrot-keeping
- Use evidence-based approaches
- Engage in continuous learning
- Prioritise safety for parrots and humans
- Show empathy and respect for parrots and humans
- Maximise resources for sustainability
- Promote inclusivity and community
- Collaborate for greater impact
Our Milestones By Year
2024
- April 2024 – officially became AVS AWG Partner
- Other details coming soon
2023
- Once inaugurated, we participated in NParks’ pilot programme “Community for Pets” via the membership of our President & Founder. We attended our first public event with an educational booth at Pets’ Day Out on 11 February 2023
- Our first media mentions in Feb 2023 were pertaining to a high-profile rescue of an abused green cheeked conure. Thanks to the help of members of the public and the rapid action of our volunteers, we managed to secure the parrot. Pumpkin has since been adopted into a loving family!
- Our largest rescue case involved 10 lovebirds living in a small cage, with poor nutrition, overbreeding and poor hygiene. While 1 passed on from poor health due to prior neglect, all the remaining 9 were successfully adopted to wonderful new homes.
- We partnered with various organisations, community clubs, and AWGs to participate regularly in various outreach and educational events.
- We were invited to our first pre-school outreach events and brought smiles and awareness to kids about parrots.
- Our opinion on human-parrot interactions in walk-in aviaries at Bird Paradise was sought by the media (Jun 2023)
- We wrapped up our first year (2023) as an official organisation with 26 rescued parrots, 15 successful adoptions, 40 welfare enquiries involving various areas such as abuse/neglect, surrendering of parrots, and lost and found birds.
