Get To Know Us A Little More
- We have 10 board members and more than 30 volunteers, and amongst us, we have a wide variety of companion parrots – from small parrotlets to large eclectus parrots!
- Our Society is 100% run by our board members and volunteers with no salaries or remuneration! It’s a lot of hard work building up an organisation, but we are determined to make it last. We are always on the lookout for passionate and committed people to join our volunteer team.
- Some of us are passionate parrot owners, and others work directly with birds for a living!
- Did you know that we are officially an Animal Welfare Group (AWG) Partner of the Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), a cluster of The National Parks Board (NParks) of Singapore? We have achieved this milestone on 2 April 2024, just a little more than a year after our initiation!
- Despite being a young organisation, we have been featured in the media a few times, and have attended many outreach events, sharing about parrots and responsible pet ownership!

Maybelline Tan, President, Founder, Team Leader (Education)
As the leader of Parrot Society (Singapore), I am deeply committed to elevating the welfare of parrots in Singapore. PSS was created out of concern among parrot owners about the lack of awareness and poor treatment of pet parrots. What began as personal passion has grown into a collective effort to improve the lives of these intelligent birds. Despite teething challenges typical of any young organisation, I remain positive about the future. I am heartened by the results of every parrot we helped, and every owner we have supported in giving their birds a better life.
Looking ahead, I am excited about expanding our reach and impact in the parrot community and beyond. I invite you to join us by supporting us in one way or another. Every contribution, no matter how small, matters in creating a brighter future for companion parrots in Singapore!
Sua Yun Shan, Treasurer, Team Leader (Welfare)
I am deeply passionate about enhancing the lives of parrots throughout our island nation. PSS’ mission revolves around promoting responsible parrot care, enhancing awareness of their unique needs, and ensuring that these intelligent and beautiful creatures are treated with the respect and love they deserve.
At the heart of my work as the Team Leader (Welfare) lies the belief encapsulated in these words: “Saving one bird will not change the world, but surely for that one bird, the world will change forever.” This quote inspires me to persevere in creating meaningful changes—one parrot at a time.

Our Executive Structure
Parrot Society (Singapore) is made up of passionate volunteers who work across several specialised teams to support our mission of promoting parrot welfare. Each team is led by a Team Leader who reports directly to the Board, ensuring streamlined communication and alignment with organisational goals.
While not all positions are currently filled, we’re always on the lookout for individuals with relevant skillsets—or those simply eager to learn and contribute—to join us in meaningful volunteer roles.
