Azelle’s Story
When I first started volunteering at PSS I did not intend to be a fosterer, however as fate intended, I ended up with my first ever foster lovebird, Kaya (pictured). Kaya came to me as a lost bird, in a dirty cage and wings clipped by her finder.
After several vet visits, Kaya was diagnosed with diabetes, this meant that I had to convert her lifestyle to a healthier one, one with a nutritious diet and increased physical activity. This was tough considering Kaya was on a full seed diet and had her wings clipped which impeded her flying.
After months of converting Kaya to a healthier diet, tricking her to walk around the house by baiting her with treats, and countless vet visits, Kaya was declared free of diabetes! It took months of consistent training and dedication for Kaya to become the sassy and loving bird she is today. As Kayas’ rightful owner never reached out, Kaya was put up for adoption.
Now, Kaya lives with a loving family and a new lovebird friend, Cheeky! It is immensely rewarding to see updates of Kaya having a ball in her new home, living life to the fullest! Every bird deserves a second chance at life. If you feel that you are ready to take on the challenge of fostering a bird and changing a life, feel free to apply to be a fosterer with PSS.
And if you ever feel lost, do not fret as help will always be given to those who ask for it. The passionate and caring community at Parrot Care SG will always be willing to lend a hand!
